About this role

Woodlands Farm Trust is looking for a Governance Advisor. The Trust is embarking on an exciting participative planning process — Our Green Blueprint — to shape the next phase of London's largest agroecological farm.

You will undertake a governance framework review to determine whether it remains fit for purpose and support the charity's strategic objectives, followed by consideration of options to strengthen the legal structure and governance framework, including what would be needed to secure further institutional funding and strengthen the relationship between WFT and Sitopia Farm.

Responsibilities

  • Interview WFT Board members (current and past) and key stakeholders to undertake a governance framework review of Articles of Association, governance framework, policies, procedures and practices
  • Assess options to reinforce the organisation's legal structure and governance framework to meet standards expected by institutional, corporate, and municipal funders
  • Produce an action plan to address governance benchmarks and priority risks
  • Evaluate structural, financial, and legal implications of different partnership options between Woodlands Farm Trust and Sitopia Farm
  • Support the WFT board and Sitopia Farm in coming to a preferred option
  • Deliver a short-term status report and funder-readiness review by end-August
  • Present recommendations from governance review and short-term actions for sign-off at AGM in early October
  • Produce a WFT/Sitopia Farm Partnership Options Paper post-October AGM evaluating legal feasibility, risks, and alignment with business case and Green Blueprint

Requirements

  • Experience of leading or stewarding complex, multi-stakeholder governance reviews
  • Strong understanding and practical experience of best practice in the charity/social enterprise sectors
  • Excellent relationship-building and communication skills
  • Commitment to inclusive and participative ways of working
Desirable:
  • Familiarity with Woodlands Farm, Sitopia Farm or the agroecological sector
  • Experience of community engagement or co-design processes
  • Knowledge and experience of fundraising for UK charities
