About this role

As our Senior Creative (Copy), you’ll be joining a friendly, talented and dedicated team who recently won In-house agency of the year at The Drum awards. You will work closely with your Creative Lead and fellow writers and designers to deliver creative content to highest standard across all areas of our communication.

The role will provide an opportunity to work across a range of media including print, tv, social and experiential designs. You will work with stakeholders across the organisation creating communications for our teams in fundraising, campaigns, services and retail. You will create strong concepts backed up with strategic thinking and be able to present your ideas clearly to a variety of stakeholders In this varied, fast paced and stimulating role, you'll collaborate closely with colleagues; taking briefs from concept through to completion; working alongside a group of talented writers and designers.

You will be overseeing one of our in-house writers, helping them develop their creative skills, ensuring that their work represents the Shelter brand to the highest creative standards and looking after their wellbeing in the work environment.     You need to ensure all copy outputs for the Shelter brand are represented to the highest creative standards and maintain brand consistency. You must be very thorough in checking your work and making sure there are no mistakes. You build strong relationships with stakeholders and be the go-to person for any queries about copy, grammar or the tone of voice.

Responsibilities

Creative:

  • Writing fresh and innovative copy within confines of brand identity and executions in line with the brief
  • Brainstorming concepts with other members of the Creative team, including Leads and Head of Creative and Production.
  • Being up to date with knowledge of how to write persuasive copy and being able to write for multiple media forms
  • Working across a wide range of communications, fulfilling briefs accurately to multiple, tight deadlines, as well as flexibly on an ad-hoc basis when required.
  • To write, edit and proofread long and short copy for a range of audiences
  • Troubleshooting: updating copy with awareness for brand style / evolving brand style.
  • Making amendments to pre-existing work to bring in-line with updated guidelines.
  • Being comfortable in putting together pitch documents.
  • Working with text or data heavy documents to create brochures and reports
  • Proven experience as a copywriter, demonstrating creative thinking impressive attention to detail, alongside an adherence to brand guidelines.
  • The ability to do detailed final copy checks on artwork, spotting typos and errors
  • Be very thorough in checking your work and making sure there no mistakes.
Brand Identity:

  • Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the Shelter Brand and how it is applied across both long and short-form copy
  • Understand how our brand can flex but not break - to tell a multitude of stories in new and exciting ways.
  • Ensure all copy outputs for the Shelter brand are represented to the highest creative standards and maintain brand consistency
  • Monitor the application of Corporate Brand ID across Shelter materials and check and advise for correct usage.

Requirements

  • You will have proven experience as a copywriter, producing lots of collateral at once with thorough attention to detail and adherence to brand guidelines
  • You will have experience of working to/with tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment across a variety of creative and design projects
  • You will have the ability to write both long and short form copy, across a variety of media
  • You will have experience of working within copy guidelines/character limits for a variety of social media platforms.
  • You will know how to edit your own copy and other people’s, with the ability to spot typos and communication errors.
