About this role

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and grow Save the Rhino’s supporter-led fundraising. As Events and Community Fundraising Manager, you will take ownership of our challenge events programme and community fundraising activity, developing the strategy for these income streams and ensuring we recruit, engage and support the community of fundraisers who take on amazing challenges, raise awareness and organise their own fundraising activities to raise money for rhino conservation.

Responsibilities

Mass participation and challenge events:

  • Lead the development and delivery of Save the Rhino’s programme of mass participation and challenge events, recruiting participants, supporting them to reach their fundraising targets and ensuring a positive experience throughout.
  • Work with the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing to develop and deliver the strategy for Save the Rhino’s challenge events programme and set targets and identify opportunities for growth
  • Recruit participants for Save the Rhino’s challenge event places, including but not limited to the London Marathon, Great North Run and the ForRangers Ultra, coordinating communications with participants and ensuring event places are filled
  • Work with the communications and marketing team to develop, implement and maintain end-to-end supporter journeys for challenge event participants, ensuring fundraisers receive timely, relevant and motivating communications throughout their fundraising campaign
  • Build strong relationships with challenge event fundraisers, acting as their main point of contact and providing encouragement and practical support to help them reach their fundraising targets
  • Plan and deliver participant engagement activities, including shakeout events, fundraising training sessions and tips to support challenge event fundraisers in their preparation and help them reach their targets
  • Research and identify new challenge event opportunities to expand Save the Rhino’s portfolio, striving to create accessible and impactful fundraising opportunities for Save the Rhino’s community
  • Manage the ForRangers Ultra event, delivering the participant supporter journey and engagement programme, and manage the race partnership with Beyond the Ultimate and ForRangers
  • Plan and coordinate Save the Rhino’s presence on event days, including volunteer recruitment, cheering points and logistics for the London Marathon weekend
  • Track and evaluate event and participant performance, using data and insight to monitor KPIs and improve fundraising return on investment Manage Save the Rhino’s rhino costumes coordinating their
maintenance, supporting the development of new costumes and keeping an accurate record of their whereabouts

DIY and community fundraising:

  • Lead the development and delivery of Save the Rhino’s community fundraising activity, building and maintaining relationships with individuals, groups and organisations who fundraise for Save the Rhino in their own way, supporting them to have a positive experience and maximise their fundraising.
  • Work with the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing to develop and deliver the strategy for Save the Rhino’s community fundraising activity and to set targets and identify opportunities for growth
  • Act as the main point of contact for DIY and community fundraisers, responding to queries and providing practical support, encouragement and fundraising guidance
  • Develop and maintain relationships with schools raising funds for Save the Rhino, growing the pipeline of school supporters
  • Engage with community groups and local organisations with the aim of maximising income and awareness
  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Team to develop and implement tailored supporter journeys for DIY and community fundraisers, ensuring they receive relevant communications and feel connected to Save the Rhino’s mission
  • Work with the Communications and Marketing Team to produce, update and maintain fundraising materials and resources for community fundraisers, including schools and other community based organisations.
  • Ensure that the community fundraising and events areas of the Save the Rhino website are kept up to date and relevant
  • Work with the Senior Marketing Manager to develop community fundraiser-focused content for digital and print media
  • Work with the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing and the wider fundraising team to explore new fundraising opportunities, with a particular focus on supporter-led fundraising
General:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Salesforce records across all areas of responsibility, including contacts, campaigns and opportunities
  • Ensure Save the Rhino’s online giving platforms, including Enthuse, JustGiving, GivenGain and Funraisin, are on-brand, accurate and present a consistent experience for supporters
  • Working with the Head of Finance and Operations, ensure that data from online giving platforms is accurately imported and reflected in Salesforce, whether through existing integrations or manual processes
  • Work with the Head of Fundraising, Communications and Marketing to develop annual budgets for mass participation events and community fundraising and monitor income and expenditure against agreed targets
  • Ensure all fundraising activity across areas of responsibility complies with GDPR, the Fundraising Code of Practice and relevant sector guidance
  • Contribute to organisational monitoring, evaluation and learning processes
  • Participate in Save the Rhino’s annual review process
Provide support to the wider Save the Rhino team as needed, including at events and other organisational activities

Requirements

Essential:

  • At least two years’ experience of developing and delivering challenge events, mass participation or community fundraising programmes, with a track record of achieving income targets
  • Experience of developing and delivering supporter journeys that motivate fundraisers and strengthen engagement
  • Experience of developing and managing budgets and monitoring income against targets
  • Experience using online giving platforms such as Enthuse, JustGiving, GivenGain or Funraisin
  • Experience using CRM systems to manage supporter data, track fundraising activity and inform decision making
  • Knowledge of GDPR, the Fundraising Code of Practice and relevant sector guidance
  • Strong people skills, with the confidence to build positive relationships with a wide range of supporters
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with the ability to manage multiple activities and deadlines
  • A proactive, strategic approach with the ability to identify opportunities and take initiative
  • Confident working with data, with attention to detail in record-keeping and reporting
Desirable:
  • Experience of volunteer recruitment and management
  • Experience of working with schools, community groups or local organisations in a fundraising context
  • Experience working within the conservation or charity sector
