About this role
Open Planet Studios is looking for a Digital Content Lead. This role combines strategic thinking with hands-on delivery, managing the day-to-day operations, optimisation and development of Open Planet's digital presence. You will oversee websites for both the production studio and open-source platform, manage YouTube and social media channels, develop digital content and distribution strategies, and work closely with internal creative, editorial and technical teams to maximise audience reach and engagement.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage website content for openplanet.org and openplanetstudios.uk, ensuring accuracy, engagement and up-to-date information
- Support ongoing website development projects and platform enhancements with external digital agencies
- Monitor website performance, accessibility, SEO and analytics, consolidating into monthly reports
- Identify opportunities to optimise user journeys, content discoverability and audience engagement
- Maintain content governance standards, quality assurance processes and publishing workflows
- Support integration of new tools, features and digital products
- Develop and implement YouTube content and audience growth strategies
- Manage Open Planet's owned YouTube channels, including publishing, optimisation and maintenance
- Support global release and impact campaign for 'How to Live on Earth' documentary launching September
- Optimise video titles, descriptions, thumbnails, playlists and metadata
- Develop content calendars aligned with organisational priorities
- Monitor channel performance and audience insights
- Develop and implement social media strategies across Instagram, LinkedIn and other channels
- Manage content distribution, scheduling and publishing workflows
- Build audience engagement through community management and social listening
- Monitor performance and provide regular reporting and recommendations
- Manage paid media/boosting budget
- Work closely with editorial, creative, production and communications teams
- Coordinate content calendars across multiple platforms
- Manage external agencies, freelancers and platform partners
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and to high standard
- Contribute to broader digital strategy and organisational objectives
Requirements
Essential:
- Proven experience managing websites and digital content platforms
- Experience developing and implementing YouTube content strategies
- Strong knowledge of YouTube Studio, channel optimisation and audience growth
- Experience managing professional social media channels, particularly Instagram and LinkedIn
- Strong understanding of content distribution, scheduling and publishing workflows
- Experience using content management systems (CMS)
- Understanding of UX principles and digital user journeys
- Experience using analytics tools such as Google Analytics, YouTube Analytics and social platform insights
- Knowledge of SEO best practice and content optimisation
- Excellent project management and organisational skills
- Strong written communication and editorial skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience working collaboratively across creative and technical teams
Desirable:
- Experience working in film, media, environmental, non-profit or mission-driven organisations
- Experience working with external stakeholders and agencies
- Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive digital design
- Experience with email marketing platforms and audience engagement strategies
- Knowledge of paid social media campaigns and audience targeting
- Experience working with video content production teams
- Familiarity with website development processes and agile delivery approaches
- Basic understanding of HTML, CSS or other web technologies
