About this role
Kairos is looking for a contract software engineer. We're seeking a talented engineer to ship Talent Commons, a consent-based talent database that lets organizations across the AI safety ecosystem coordinate on talent. You'll work closely with our founding generalist and co-director to design and build infrastructure that serves as a critical coordination tool for the AI safety field.
Responsibilities
- Design the frontend, backend, and integrations for Talent Commons, including the participant dashboard, org query interface, consent flows, and admin tooling,
- Design the data model and access controls to ensure strong guarantees around who can see what, when, and how everything gets logged,
- Onboard partner organisations by setting up authorised-user agreements, query interfaces, and data ingestion from Airtable and other systems,
- Lean heavily on AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, etc.) to ship the product efficiently,Work autonomously with weekly syncs and async check-ins as needed
Requirements
- High agency and self-directed work style,
- Effective use of AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, or similar) on a daily basis,
- Strong judgment on when and how to leverage AI coding tools,
- Trustworthiness with sensitive data and commitment to privacy and security,
- Mission alignment with AI safety and understanding of the ecosystem,
- Ability to attend meetings in ET time zone,
- Preferred: Experience with TypeScript, React, and PostgreSQL or Convex,
- Preferred: Experience building products with sensitive personal data (HR tech, healthcare, fintech),
- Preferred: Familiarity with data protection and privacy compliance,
- Preferred: Existing AI safety or adjacent nonprofit experience
