About this role

Impact Ops is an independent organization providing finance and operations support to high-impact nonprofits. Our services include bookkeeping, financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll coordination, audit support, and entity setup. We serve around 40 clients across the US and UK, spanning cause areas including global health, animal welfare, AI safety, and climate.

We’re a remote-first team of around 15 people based across the world. We’re looking for motivated, detail-oriented people who care about doing good work in service of organizations trying to do good in the world.

Responsibilities

As a Finance Associate, you’ll work across a portfolio of UK and US nonprofit clients, handling day-to-day finance operations and contributing to reporting and compliance tasks. You’ll report to Viktorie and work closely with the broader Impact Ops finance team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Bookkeeping and transaction processing in Xero and QuickBooks Online across the client portfolio
  • Monthly reconciliations and financial close tasks
  • Accounts payable processing, including invoice review and payment runs
  • Payroll coordination support across UK and US payroll platforms
  • Preparing financial reports and budget-vs-actuals summaries for client review
  • Supporting audit preparation and liaising with external auditors
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory and tax requirements in both jurisdictions
  • Contributing to process improvement and internal documentation

Requirements

You’ll need to have:

  • At least 2 years of experience in a finance, accounting, or bookkeeping role
  • Familiarity with accounting software (Xero, QuickBooks Online, or similar)
  • Working knowledge of finance compliance or tax requirements in the UK, the US, or both
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks across different clients
  • Good written communication skills and comfort working independently in a remote environment
It would be a bonus if you also have:
  • Nonprofit sector experience: understanding of fund accounting, restricted grants, or charity compliance
  • Cross-jurisdictional experience: comfort working across UK and US regulatory environments
  • Familiarity with our toolstack: Xero, QuickBooks Online, Ramp, Gusto, Deel, Apron, or similar
  • A process improvement mindset: you spot inefficiencies and take initiative to address them

How to apply

To apply, please submit your CV and a short cover letter explaining your interest in the role and relevant experience.
