About this role
GiveWell is looking for a Program Officer to help direct hundreds of millions of dollars annually to the most cost-effective global health and poverty alleviation programs. As part of our lean research team, you will have an outsized influence on our funding decisions and help us save and improve lives on a global scale. You'll own grant investigations and help manage a portfolio of grants, evaluating the best funding opportunities and helping shape new ones.
Responsibilities
- Investigate and recommend grants from scoping through recommendation, discussing opportunities with potential grantees and estimating cost-effectiveness
- Manage a portfolio of grants by maintaining a current view of whether grants are on track and collaborating with grantees to assess outputs
- Analyze interventions at various levels of depth to refine views about cost-effectiveness and recommend deprioritization or further work
- Build cost-effectiveness models to estimate the costs and benefits of particular interventions
- Build relationships with grantees, academics, program staff, and other funders
- Publish reports and blog posts on our website documenting findings and reasoning
Requirements
- Strong analytical and research skills with ability to review empirical evidence and build models
- Experience with cost-effectiveness analysis and quantitative modeling
- Excellent judgment and ability to combine rigorous evidence review with qualitative factors
- Strong communication skills for writing reports and engaging with stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple grant investigations simultaneously
- Experience with global health, poverty alleviation, or related fields preferred
- Willingness to travel 1-2 times per year for site visits and conferences
