Job Description
As our new Communications and Campaigns Officer, you’ll bring your experience in digital communications to contribute towards making Possible’s work relevant, accessible and inspiring to key audiences. You’ll take a proactive approach to increasing and diversifying our audiences and finding new ways to talk about climate change with new people.Â
Working across the campaigns and communications teams, you’ll create exciting and engaging content which brings our work to life on digital platforms. You’ll have a good understanding of which platforms, tone and style are best suited to reach which audiences, and an eye for analytics, monitoring and evaluating what works, and adapting accordingly.Â
You’ll provide essential, day to day administrative support to our communications and campaigns teams through information sharing, calendar management and document preparation. In our small comms team, there is a lot of crossover between roles, so you will occasionally be asked to pitch into other functions such as web and press. At different times, you’ll provide support to our varied campaigns—from aviation to community energy to traffic reduction to electrical repair—offering you the chance to engage with a lot of different people, in a range of ways.
You’ll be invited to contribute to general marketing, media, outreach, fundraising and campaign strategy. And everyone at Possible helps out in the best ways they are able, by doing things like organising digital birthday cards, taking out the bins or the virtual equivalent, so there’s that too.
We usually work 9.30am-5.30pm but staff can use flexitime to work the hours that work for them depending on the day or request different standard hours.
Responsibilities
Communications
- Support efficient workflow across the organisation’s communications function by monitoring Possible’s general contact inboxes and internal Slack channels and triaging messages and requests.
- Provide administrative support to the Head of Communications, such as scheduling, preparing agendas, research etc.
- Work with our Content Creation and Social Media Officer and our campaigners to workshop and create engaging written, visual and video content to promote Possible’s work.
- Support the delivery of a regular calendar of activity across social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok) to grow a network of online supporters.
- Support the management of supporter data and email communications in our CRM, Engaging Networks.
- Track engagement metrics of online content across our website, social media platforms and email communications, prepare reports on KPIs and make suggestions for improvement.
- Attend regular communications team meetings and represent the team in other meetings as required.
- Support communications team members with other tasks as required.
Campaigns
- Provide administrative and organisational support to the campaigns team.
- Support coordination and information sharing between the campaigns and communications teams to help keep projects aligned and on track.
- Assist with stakeholder email communications to keep Possible’s partners updated and engaged in our campaigns.
- Maintain the impact log spreadsheet using team updates shared in Slack.
- Help prepare document templates for quarterly board reporting.
- Support campaigns team members with other tasks as required.
Organisational involvement
- Play an active role in keeping Possible a supportive, inspiring and anti-oppressive place to work.Â
- Represent Possible at public events and meetings where appropriate.
- Participate in regular and ad hoc team meetings and training.
- Adapt your role within the team as appropriate, providing support and input to other campaigns and projects as necessary.
- Participate in organisational strategy development and reviews.Â
- Be a team player e.g. skill sharing, chipping in on communal tasks and helping each other out where able.
Role Requirements
To make our shortlist, you’ll need:
- An interest in public engagement with climate action and climate justice – You will have experience or an active interest in inspiring people across the UK from all backgrounds to take climate action.
- A commitment to Possible’s mission, values and anti-oppression work – Doing your bit to help create a working environment that is inclusive and allows our team, supporters and the communities we work with to thrive.Â
- Demonstrable experience in conducting administrative tasks to a high standard, including calendar scheduling, note taking, record-keeping and electronic filing.
- Demonstrable written and verbal communications skills, with the ability to adapt style for a range of audiences including staff, external partners, supporters and lay people.
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills, able to manage a varied workload and use tools, processes and systems to prioritise and progress multiple projects.
- Experience of creating engaging, campaign-centred content, particularly short-form video, for a range of digital platforms, including websites, social media platforms and email.
- Basic video filming and editing skills and the enthusiasm to develop these further.Â
- Knowledge of website content management systems (CMS) and customer relations management (CRM) databases, or the ability to learn relevant skills quickly.
- Knowledge of design software and content scheduling tools or the ability to learn relevant skills quickly.
- Some experience of project-based working, such as working with different stakeholders across a project, and managing contingencies and deadlines, or enthusiasm to upskill in this area.
- To be a collaborative team player, able to work with direction from multiple stakeholders and be proactive at identifying and proposing opportunities e.g. process improvement or organisational visibility.
- To be flexible in order to accommodate changing priorities in the organisation while still meeting deadlines.
- To have an enthusiasm to learn from a great team of skilled, experienced and passionate people who come from a range of backgrounds and disciplines.
