Opportunity Green is looking for a Communications Manager.

Overview:

  • Full-time, 4-day work week
  • Location: Brussels, Belgium with bi-monthly travel to London
  • Language: English
  • Salary: €4,310 per month
  • Applications closing: 18th May

Job Description

The Communications Manager will report to Opportunity Green’s Communications Director. The role will be based in Brussels and take ownership of our comms work in the EU, with particular focus on the advocacy work of the SASHA Coalition. The role therefore requires a strong understanding of the EU political landscape, established media contacts in Brussels and the EU, and proven experience of working in EU-focussed comms.

The Communications Manager will be responsible for developing subject matter, building strong networks and media contacts in order to set the direction of communications strategies and manage day-to-day communications in these areas.

We’re looking for someone who shows sound political judgement and who can react quickly while staying on-message when they spot an opportunity to use the news agenda to increase our impact. You’ll be a comms generalist who can turn your hand to developing content across multiple platforms and for a range of audiences and know how to turn technical subjects into engaging and accessible narratives. You will need to be equally as comfortable pitching ideas to journalists and writing media quotes as you are managing social media channels and growing our newsletter.

As the only member of the comms team based in Brussels (with other members of our advocacy team), you will need to be great at generating ideas, self-motivated and comfortable working independently.

Role Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with:

  • A genuine passion for using digital skills to tackle climate change and commitment to Opportunity Green’s mission and values.
  • Strong understanding of EU political landscape.
  • Proven experience working on EU-focused communications, with strong media contacts in Brussels.
  • Experience of developing content across multiple platforms (blogs, web pages, social media content, press releases, newsletters) and for a range of audiences.
  • A keen eye for telling stories tailored to our target audiences and communicating complex ideas in a way that’s accessible and impactful.
  • Great communicator and collaborator who is confident at providing clear support and direction for colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience of securing strategic media coverage that aligns with organisational goals.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Committed to collaboration, curiosity and continuous learning.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong political analysis and judgement, and ability to identify opportunities to intervene in prevailing narratives to increase impact.
  • Understanding of SEO and analytics, and how to apply them to create quality content. (desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience of line management is a plus but not required.
