Job Description
This is a key role in a fast-paced, collaborative communications and advocacy team helping to deliver real impact in the prevention of offline and online child sexual abuse across the UK.
As a communications all-rounder, you’ll report to the Communications Manager and support colleagues across the team to deliver engaging, accessible and effective communications that help prevent child sexual abuse.
You’ll play a vital role in supporting our digital channels, campaigns and content creation – from social media and newsletters to website updates and printed materials. You’ll help us maintain a consistent, engaging and professional presence across our communication platforms and contribute to us achieving greater awareness of our work.
Responsibilities
Digital and campaign support
- Create digital and multimedia content and assets for our social media platforms and schedule and post social media content that complies with the charity’s brand guidelines.
- Compile monthly organic social media metrics for team reporting and consider opportunities for further promoting the work of the charity on social media.
- Monitor social media daily for mentions and sector news.
- Support our paid search campaign (via ad coupons), monitoring statistics and engaging with platform account managers.
- Help maintain website pages by uploading new content and ensuring information is current.
Content and marketing material creation
- Draft, proof and edit copy for social media, email, blog posts, publications and website updates, ensuring that the content is engaging, easily understood and tailored to the audience’s needs.
- Assist with the production and distribution of promotional and marketing materials such as leaflets and posters.
- Liaise with external suppliers such as designers and printers as required.
- Liaise with colleagues to gather stories, approvals and materials for campaigns or communication plans.
- Ensure all content meets accessibility, safeguarding and brand guidelines.
Administrative and team support
- Support the wider team in the delivery of communication plans or campaigns, including our advocacy goals.
- Manage team inboxes.
- Monitor the media for coverage of the charity and the sector, reporting to the wider team and charity as required.
- Maintain media contact lists, media responses and coverage and image libraries.
- Coordinate the distribution of designed leaflets and posters.
- Support events and conferences, including creating marketing materials, supporting the creation of slide decks, managing invite lists and representing the charity as external events where appropriate.
Other duties
- Have a degree of flexibility and be willing to adjust their working schedules and practices to meet the demands, challenges and opportunities of the role.
- Undertake any other tasks as are reasonably requested by the charity from time to time.
- Build effective and trusting working relationships across the charity.
- Participate in training, supervision, appraisals and team meetings so as to discharge the responsibilities of the post as effectively as possible.
- Operate firmly within the charity’s code of conduct at all times.
- Comply and work within the charity’s policies and procedures.
- Adhere to the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and fire regulations.
- Be passionate about the delivery of our vision of a world free from child sexual abuse.
Role Requirements
Knowledge, qualifications and experience
- Experience (paid or voluntary) in communications, marketing or digital support.
- Experience working in the charity or public sector.
- Experience working with sensitive or complex and confidential issues.
- Experience supporting paid or organic digital campaigns.
- Experience in video editing.
- Understanding of accessibility in communications and brand compliance.
- Familiarity with analytics dashboards (i.e. Google, Meta, LinkedIn).
- Experience in creating compelling presentations.
Skills and personal attributes
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent eye for detail.
- Confident using social media platforms and digital design tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe, WordPress).
- IT literacy across the Microsoft Office suite.
- Organised and able to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Team-oriented, proactive and positive with a willingness to learn new skills.
- Able to work independently and to refer or consult when necessary.
- Ability to handle sensitive, confidential issues.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with colleagues and external stakeholders.
- An understanding of what makes engaging content and an ability to find a compelling story in our everyday work.
