Animal Charity Evaluators (ACE) are looking for a Development Coordinator.
Overview:
- Freelance contract: part-time (16 – 20 hours/week), 6 months (initially, with potential for renewal)

- Location: Remote; only open to candidates in the U.S.; must routinely be available from 8am-10am Pacific time, Mon-Thurs
- Salary: $40 – $50 per hour

Job Description
The Development Coordinator will support ACE’s Development team during our Development Manager’s summer sabbatical and through Giving Season in the fall. This role blends development operations with fundraising support, helping ACE maintain strong donor relationships and sustain the resources needed to advance our mission. Strong performance may lead to a permanent part-time position following the initial 6-month contract, pending ACE’s resources.
Responsibilities
- Development operations [50-60% of time]
- Respond to inbound donor inquiries promptly and thoughtfully, directing gift inquiries to the Development Director as appropriate.
- Support the Finance Director and Administrative Assistant in uploading incoming donations to Salesforce from third-party platforms, including Fundraise Up, donor-advised fund portals, and workplace giving programs.
- Process gift acknowledgments and assign donor thank-you communications to the Development Director.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor records in Salesforce, including contact information, gift history, and communication logs.
- Support data hygiene efforts to ensure the integrity of ACE’s donor database.
- Collaborate with the Administrative Assistant and Operations & Systems Manager to incorporate AI tools into fundraising workflows.
- Meta-fundraising support [40-50% of time]
- Draft impact updates, cultivation correspondence, and gift acknowledgments for the Development Director.
- Assist the Development Director in preparing timely materials for applications to foundations and donors, including drafting proposal text.
- Assist the Development Director in securing key events, engagements, and meetings to support our meta-fundraising activities.
- Track the engagement and support of donors through the cultivation cycle, including preparing notes and materials for Development team meetings.
- Log all donor interactions and maintain accurate cultivation notes in Salesforce.

- You have experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, grantwriting, or a closely related field
- You have raised money for others
- You do not shy away from productive conversations and giving feedback
- You communicate effectively in writing, adapting your tone and style to different contexts
- You can independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- You are productive working in a fully remote environment
- You are bothered by typos and take pride in accurate record-keeping and data entry
- You are sensitive in dealing with confidential information
- You understand how a range of perspectives and fair treatment of people strengthens the quality and effectiveness of our work.
- You consider the context and consequences of your work for ACE’s mission
Desirable:

- You are familiar with animal advocacy or effective altruism/effective giving principles
- You have experience with AI tools, Salesforce, Fundraise Up, Asana, Slack, and/or Google Workspace
- You have experience with writing successful grant proposals
- You have worked for a nonprofit or charity organization
- You have experience with public speaking (only relevant if contract is extended beyond 6 months)
- You have experience with and are comfortable traveling for work up to 1x per quarter (only relevant if contract is extended beyond 6 months)
