We proactively support people and businesses alike to explore the diverse world of plant-based foods and the benefits they bring.
We are seeking an experienced Director to lead the growth and development of the Veganuary campaign in the UK.
You will increase the reach of the well-established Veganuary brand in the UK, foster relationships with businesses, media, influencers, and other organisations, and lead a small team in driving corporate activity and increasing participation. You’ll be a driven campaigner, well-versed with advocacy movements, and a natural networker with a skill for proactively identifying opportunities for making connections and increasing impact.
Responsibilities
As a Director at Veganuary, you will be responsible for the following:
- Serve as a high-visibility spokesperson for Veganuary in the UK, upholding the organisation’s vision and values via media opportunities, conferences, and other key stakeholder engagements
- Critically analyse the current UK landscape and identify the most impactful strategy for Veganuary to achieve our aims as effectively and efficiently as possible with the resources available
- With support from the CEO, develop and implement a strategic plan for the UK, with measurable goals and objectives that align with Veganuary’s overall strategic plan
- Proactively identify and explore new opportunities for Veganuary to maximise impact and deliver on our mission in the UK, including creating new projects and partnerships
- Grow awareness and positive reputation of the Veganuary brand amongst stakeholders, influencers, the media, corporations, other advocacy organisations, and potential supporters
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team, supporting them to do their best work
- As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, work closely with senior colleagues to help guide the direction of the organisation as a whole and deliver Veganuary’s mission
- Deliver an impactful PR and media campaign that maximises Veganuary’s brand exposure in the UK
- Working closely with the International Head of Marketing and Creative, develop bespoke OOH marketing opportunities for the UK audience
- Oversee the UK Communications team in the creation of high-quality materials and content, including press releases, pitches, email/web/social content, and general campaign resources for the UK audience, in line with international brand guidelines
- Oversee our corporate engagement work in the UK, both directly and by supporting the Corporate Engagement team, to build relationships with major food brands, create pitch materials, select targets, and identify opportunities for mutual benefit. Serve as a Veganuary spokesperson on corporate and Workplace Challenge presentations as needed
- Maintain responsibility for the UK team’s corporate income goals
- Collaborate with other areas of the organisation and participate on international teams including the Marketing team, Corporate Engagement team, and Fundraising team, ensuring the UK is aligned with global strategy
- Undertake appropriate domestic or international travel to accomplish the responsibilities of the role
- Ensure that key campaign outcomes are evaluated and leveraged for maximum organisational impact
- Any further duties that may reasonably be required of the role
Role Requirements
- Significant experience in a similar role at senior leadership level, ideally within the UK nonprofit/charitable sector
- An in-depth knowledge of the vegan and/or animal rights movement in the UK, and existing connections within the sector
- Significant experience of line management and developing high performing teams
- Strong critical thinking skills, with experience developing, refining, and executing campaign strategies
- Experience in public speaking and delivering campaign messages succinctly and persuasively through TV, radio, written media, and talks to live audiences, with the ability to showcase examples
- Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship development skills, with the ability to effectively relate to and influence people at all levels, and represent the organisation externally, including with other non-profit organisations, corporations, and donors
- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing successful communications and marketing strategies, including designing and delivering effective campaign tactics using social media, and producing high quality written communications, such as social media posts, blogs, pitches, and press releases
- Demonstrable ability to work proactively and collaboratively
- Ability to work effectively and manage a team in a fully remote working environment
- Complete alignment to the values of Veganuary as a vegan organisation, as well as a thorough understanding of all aspects of veganism
- Share and support Veganuary’s vision and values (see below)
Our vision
Our vision is simple; we want a vegan world. A world without animal farms and slaughterhouses. A world where food production does not decimate forests, pollute rivers and oceans, exacerbate climate change, and drive wild animal populations to extinction.
Our values
Impact:Â we are committed to a vegan world; we will utilise research to evaluate how the highest number of lives can be spared and direct resources to that end.
Empowerment:Â we will optimise our outreach to support and encourage people on their vegan journey in a non-judgemental, positive, constructive and easily accessible way.
Collaboration:Â by partnering with other mission-driven organisations and working closely with corporates, we will make a bigger difference.
Diversity and inclusion: we know that it takes people with different ideas, strengths, interests and backgrounds to achieve our vision; we appreciate the value of this and how it brings us closer to achieving our mission.
Respect and integrity: in all internal and external relationships, we will strive for genuine, honest, and transparent communication.
Resilience:Â we will continue to create a professional and sustainable (human, social, economic and environmental) organisation.
How to apply?
If you’d like to be part of our amazing team and organisation, please send us your CV and tell us why, in the form of a cover letter of no more than 1000 words, that answers the following questions:
- Why do you want to work for Veganuary?
- Why this role particularly?
- What will you bring to our charity?
Without a cover letter your application will not be considered. Our team are all aligned to our mission, so we want to hear from you, and the cover letter gives us the opportunity to do so. The questions above are chosen specifically to help us understand more about your motivation for this role, rather than your work experience, which we can understand from your CV, so please ensure you answer them within your cover letter. We welcome applications even if you don’t meet every point on the person specification, if you feel you have the required skills and experience overall.
