Job Description
NDWA is seeking a talented writer with journalism experience to write news articles in Spanish for La Alianza. La Alianza is a Facebook News Page Index (NPI) registered news organisation. It’s also a channel to communicate with hundreds of thousands of Spanish-speaking domestic workers via Facebook Messenger, Facebook Page, and Noticias website.
As a News writer, you will be primarily responsible for pitching and writing original content in the form of news articles about current events, resources, cultural news, and other timely information relevant to our audience of domestic workers and immigrant communities.
Responsibilities
As a journalist and content creator at NDWA, you will:
- Research and pitch stories that are relevant to our audience.
- Write and edit, original news articles in Spanish with a journalistic tone and style (with images included in each article).
- Ensure all citations are complete, thorough, and factually accurate.
- Test resources shared in news articles to check accessibility to Spanish-speaking communities.
- Occasionally conduct virtual interviews to get testimonies or quotes for stories.
- Attend and participate in pre-arranged meetings during M-F 10-6 ET hours.
- Write news headlines for bi-weekly surveys conducted in the department.
- Support social media content development, posts, experiments, and analysis as needed.
Role Requirements
We are looking for a candidate that meets the following requirements:
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, with experience writing for publication in Spanish.
- Journalism experience in the digital media environment, ideally in social media platforms.
- Understanding of Solutions Journalism and building trust within digital communities.
- Strong virtual communication. You are available to communicate with our staff as needed via email and Slack and participate in pre-arranged phone or video meetings.
- Proven ability to learn quickly, work independently, and meet multiple deadlines with a keen attention to detail.
- Familiarity with the domestic worker sector and issues facing domestic workers and other low-wage workers, immigrant communities, and communities of color.
- Commitment to social justice. You have demonstrated a commitment to social justice and progressive social change through your community experience, work positions, or volunteer roles, and you want to be part of a team of people who share this commitment.
