Advancing the science of forecasting for the public good.
Forecasting Research Institute is looking for a Chief of Staff to join their team.
Overview:
- Full-time position
- Language: English
- Location: Anywhere (Remote)
- Salary: $80,000 – $130,000 per year, depending on experience
- Applications closing: until filled
Job Description
The Chief of Staff would work closely with the CEO, Josh Rosenberg, to push ahead FRI’s highest priority projects. Ideally this would involve doing a mix of strategic, research, and project management-oriented work. Example tasks could include:
- Working with Josh to develop an impact evaluation methodology for FRI and then implementing it. For example, you would design a quantitative and qualitative survey to get external evaluations, coordinate collection of those evaluations, and write up the results.
- Organising and pushing ahead fundraising initiatives. This would involve project management, drafting proposals, and thinking through fundraising strategy.
- Project managing work on assessing AI capabilities in fields like cybersecurity. This would involve generating lists of relevant domain experts via conversations and online research, managing email communications to collect forecasts, and coordinating a team to write forecasting questions, do data analysis, and write up the results.
- Helping to develop annual organisational goals and working to ensure that our staff is on track for meeting those goals.
This role is new and relatively open-ended and we expect it to evolve over time. The Chief of Staff may end up spending relatively more time on organisational strategy, project management, fundraising, research, or other areas depending on fit.
We would not expect you to be responsible for managing Josh’s calendar, but we want to be up front that Forecasting Research Institute is a small organisation, and the Chief of Staff will be responsible for completing some relatively administrative tasks as a part of the role.
Role Requirements
The ideal candidate would have the following characteristics, but do not let this list prevent you from applying:
- Passionate about FRI’s mission
- Excellent project manager who consistently checks in and drives work ahead independently
- Strong writing skills
- Interested in a combination of organisational strategy, fundraising, and research
- Clear, explicit communicator
- Collaborative and friendly teammate
We believe that people with a wide range of experience levels could be a great fit for this role. In addition, we are open to talented generalists who are relatively early in their careers for this position.
We highly encourage you to apply, even if you don’t feel completely qualified. Some of the best people we’ve worked with in our careers felt underqualified when they first applied, and we’re glad they did so anyway.
How to apply?
To apply for this role, please fill in the application form.
We are reviewing applications on a rolling basis and will take down this job posting when the role is filled.
The application process will vary by candidate but for successful candidates will typically involve:
- An initial application, including a 1-hour work test
- A paid 5-hour writing-oriented work trial
- A paid 10-hour work trial where you work closely with Josh
- Three virtual interviews with members of our team
We are looking forward to hearing from you!
