Green New Deal Rising is looking for a freelance Digital Fundraising Specialist to support their team and help them grow the number of supporters and activate them into donors.

Job Description

Green New Deal Rising has ambitious plans for 2024 – to deliver the largest youth interventions in the next general election so more Green New Deal champions elected to parliament.

To excel in this role you will be motivated by ambitious targets and be ready to hit the ground running from day one. You’ll love to experiment and test new things, and have a deep commitment to social movements and climate justice.

Key responsibilities:


  • Test a variety of fundraising tactics, frequently reporting back on progress. This will include creating content to draw in new donors – including social media, emails and online adverts.
  • Map out our current donor base to track what is currently working and experimenting with new modes of fundraising across a range of platforms to reach new audiences.
  • Build on our existing fundraising plan – you will lead on proposing and implementing strategies to hit our growth targets for the remainder of 2024 (doubling our current number of monthly donors and raising £25k in additional one off donations) in conjunction with our campaigns and electoral strategy.

Donor maintenance and conversion

  • Rework our welcome flows to encourage general supporters or one off donors to become recurring donors.

Lead Generation

  • Work with our campaigns team to devise and execute impactful digital campaign tactics that drive email list growth.
  • Test and optimise digital ads, proactively planning different formats of digital content and reactively mobilising persuadable audiences to sign up to our movement or take digital actions.
  • Assess our current digital plan for 2024 and make any changes necessary to achieve success – setting up our junior digital campaigner with a plan to deliver for the remainder of 2024 to meet our goals. This includes drafting content and plans that can be used later on in our campaigns.
  • Pitch in on creating timely organic content for socials that drives list growth.

Team working

  • Attend and contribute to regular team meetings – especially campaigns and election output.
  • Work with these colleagues to gather impact data, stories and photography from across campaigns and election outputs.
  • Support wider digital team on lead generation to contribute to fundraising pool, providing cover for when required.

Role Requirements

The ideal candidate has:

  • Strong experience of using and managing CRM systems and digital campaigning platforms.
  • Significant track record of generating digital fundraising revenue from a supporter base and bringing in new supporters, including using social media tools.
  • Significant track record of creating a range of compelling online content (such as petitions, video/audio, infographics, and social media posts) with strong editorial and political judgement and the ability to tell a story across multiple digital platforms.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines, work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with excellent understanding of how to write for different audiences and how to write optimised copy for websites.
  • Excellent organisation skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and adapt to changing internal and external needs.
  • Strong interest in emerging digital best practice and trends with appetition for applying and testing new ideas.
  • Passion for digital engagement, digital campaigning, digital fundraising and climate justice.
  • Ability to take significant responsibility for own work as well as ability to step up and show initiative as a team player.
